Striated Pardalote (photo by Gail Bryant)

I knew Spotted Quail-Thrush were in the Armidale area because a member of the local birdwatching group had taken a photo of it and asked me to identify it. That was about four years ago. Every time I was in the same area I kept an eye out for it but to no avail. Anyway, at the beginning of the month, when the local birdwatching group was out and about we were lucky enough to spot this elusive species.

Spotted Quail-Thrush (male)

Finally, I was able to take some wonderful video of both the male and female. I was thrilled. That’s 390. Only 10 to go!!

On the return trip we decided to drop into another favourite birding spot where Gail was able to take photos of a Striated Pardalote. Lovely little bird.
