Red-rumped Parrot (photo by Gail Bryant)

In June we visited the Marsupial Park in Tamworth. In the aviary we spotted a pair of

Scarlet-chested Parrot

What a colourful little parrot! They were obviously there as part of a breeding program. Some nice video was taken of this fairly rare species.

Last week we made a special trip to Barraba in search of the

Turquoise Parrot

We stayed in the Playhouse Hotel where we were treated exceptionally well. We were able to pick movies of our choice every night to be viewed in the theatre and the food was fantastic. Near Upper Horton we finally found the elusive parrot but very little quality video was obtained. They are very flighty little fellas! There were about 10 species of parrot in the area including Red-rumped Parrot.

On our way back to Armidale we called in at Warrabah NP. What a peaceful place to spend time birdwatching, bushwalking, picnicing, etc. We startled a pair of Turquoise Parrots as we approached the river. They were never seen again. So quality video of this parrot still awaits us. I guess another visit to the Playhouse Hotel is hardly a hardship.
