Wood Sandpiper (video image by Garry Clark)

We had another trip to Melbourne in April. We travelled down the centre of NSW to Albury and through to Melbourne. The return trip was via the east coast of Victoria and the south coast of NSW. Due to the dry conditions there were not a lot of birds to be seen. At Chiltern we photographed some honeyeaters including the

Yellow-tufted Honeyeater

There were very few birds around Mornington Peninsula, on the Dandenong Ranges and at Cranbourne Gardens. A request for particular bird species around Melbourne produced a response from Tom and Kev who offered to take me to the Western Treatment Plant for a day. It is quite a while since I’ve taken video of 4 new species in a day. In addition to Wood Sandpiper, I took video of

Banded Stilt

Pectoral Sandpiper

Striated Fieldwren

The Blue-winged Parrot alluded us, though some video was taken. What a great day. Thanks Tom and Kev. Hope to go back there in the spring when there are more waders.
